How much does a gardener cost per hour in the UK?
Typically £30 to £60 an hour for a self-employed gardener, with a minimum visit charge of two hours in most areas. Landscaping and tree work are priced per job rather than hourly. Waste removal is often quoted separately, so check whether it is in the bid.
Do I need permission to cut down a tree?
Possibly. Trees covered by a Tree Preservation Order, or any tree in a conservation area, need consent from your local authority, and working without it is an offence carrying a serious fine. Check with the council before booking. A reputable gardener will ask you about this.
When is the best time to lay turf?
Autumn is ideal in the UK: the ground is still warm and rainfall does the watering for you. Spring works well too. Avoid mid summer unless you can water heavily every day, and avoid frozen or waterlogged ground entirely.
Who is responsible for a boundary hedge?
The hedge belongs to whoever owns the land it grows on, and your deeds should say. You may trim growth overhanging your side back to the boundary, but the cuttings legally belong to the owner and you cannot simply throw them over. For anything contentious, agree it with your neighbour in writing first.
